Reiki & Christianity
Q I’ve heard reiki comes from God, but I’ve also heard it comes from Satan. How can I know which is true?
The bible states that “Every good thing is of God” Reiki is a practice that centers on the channeling of positive energy for healing and relaxation. It aligns with Christian values of compassion and love (Matthew 22:39). While some may have concerns, nowhere in scripture does Satan ever heal.
Q. Is reiki a religion?
Reiki is not a religion; it is a holistic healing technique. It doesn’t involve worship, rituals, or adherence to any specific religious beliefs. You can incorporate it alongside your Christian faith as a complementary healing practice.
Q. Is it ok for Christians to practice and receive Reiki?
Many Christians practice Reiki while remaining faithful to their beliefs. The Bible encourages acts of healing and compassion (Matthew 10:8). Reiki can be seen as an extension of this call to alleviate suffering and promote well-being.
Q. Is it ok for Christians or anyone for that matter to heal?
Yes, healing is a compassionate and Christ-like act. In the Bible, Jesus performed healing miracles, and Christians are encouraged to follow His example (James 5:14-15). Using Reiki as a tool for healing can be an expression of your faith.
In fact, the Bible and the Book of Mormon (a book of scripture used among the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) mention healing among the use of Spiritual gifts.
“All believers have received at least one spiritual gift from God, and they are not to hoard these gifts but use them faithfully as stewards of God’s grace” (1 Peter 4, 1 Cor 12-14, Moroni 10)
Q. I’ve heard Reiki uses symbols, and that Christians shouldn’t use symbols. Aren’t symbols of the devil?
Symbols used in Reiki are tools for focusing intention, similar to how Christians use symbols like the cross. They are not inherently evil. What matters is your intent and how you use them. If your intention is positive and aligned with Christ’s teachings, symbols can be used without conflict.
Q. Is Reiki considered witchcraft?
Reiki is not witchcraft. Witchcraft typically involves rituals, spells, and often a connection to pagan or occult practices. Reiki, on the other hand, focuses on energy healing through touch and intention, without any association with such practices.
Q. Is Reiki a cult?
Reiki is simply a healing technique, it is not a cult; Cults are generally a centralized organization with specific dogma. Cults often require material things of its followers, cults consits of a leader or leaders and all members live in a closed of community to the outside world.
Reiki on the other hand is a holistic healing practice with practitioners coming from diverse backgrounds and belief systems.
Q. Is Reiki Buddhism?
Reiki has Japanese origins, but it is not inherently tied to Buddhism or any religion. Although Mikao Usui (the founder of modern reiki) did explore the life of Christ, reiki is a secular practice that can be adapted to various belief systems, including Christianity. Your personal beliefs and intentions guide how you incorporate Reiki into your faith journey.
Reiki is a tool for promoting well-being, love, and healing. Its compatibility with Christianity depends on your intentions and beliefs. If you have concerns, consult with a trusted spiritual advisor or leader, but know that many Christians successfully integrate Reiki into their lives as a positive and spiritually enriching practice.
